A man was shot while sitting in a vehicle with a woman in a residential neighborhood Sunday morning, according to police.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting that happened a short time before 6:55 a.m. near the intersection of 25th Street and Pasadena Avenue, a few blocks south of Long Beach Memorial hospital, Long Beach police spokeswoman Jennifer De Prez said.
While investigating the shooting, police learned that the victim and a woman had self-transported to a local hospital. The man sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his upper body.
Additional officers responded to the hospital and contacted the victims. A preliminary investigation revealed the victims were in their vehicle near the intersection when the shooting happened, De Prez said.
The suspect is only described as a man. Police found casings at the intersection and are continuing the investigation.
De Prez said there is no current information indicating this incident is connected to an earlier shooting on the 1800 block of Cedar Avenue where a man sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
