A Long Beach man who was shot Friday evening near Drake Park has died, police reported Sunday.

On Friday, police were dispatched to a shots call near Drake Park at approximately 9:30. Upon arrival, police found a male adult victim lying on the sidewalk leading up to a residence in the 900 block of Loma Avenue suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso, according to authorities.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Police say detectives were informed Sunday that the victim had succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.

Police say the victim has been identified as 21-year-old Miguel Reyes, a resident of Long Beach.

According to authorities, based on the preliminary investigation, Reyes was with a female adult and the two were getting items out of their vehicle when they were confronted by a group of suspects who began shooting at them.

Police say the female was not injured. The suspects are described by police as male adults who fled the scene on foot. The motive for the shooting is believed to be gang-related, according to authorities.
