A man who had been shot in the lower body flagged down police officers Thursday just before midnight near Third Street and Pine Avenue, officials said.
He told officers that a group of men approached him and tried to rob him near Seventh Street and Long Beach Boulevard. When he tried to flee, they shot him, said police spokeswoman Allison Gallagher.
Paramedics were able to treat him at the scene and his injury was non-life threatening, she said. Other officers checked the area where the man said he was shot and found evidence of a shooting including a bullet casing.
Police don’t have suspect information available yet and are still investigating.
