A Long Beach man was arrested Sunday after he was found to be carrying a gun in a Carl’s Jr. parking lot, police said.

Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers were dispatched to the restaurant, located at 6601 Atlantic Avenue, around 3:00PM regarding a call about a person with a gun, said LBPD spokeswoman Marlene Arrona.

Arriving officers found a man who appeared to be unconscious in a vehicle in the parking lot of the business.

Deputy Chief Commander Richard Rocchi said in a tweet that the man had a gun on his lap.

Arrona said officers spent several minutes trying to get the man to wake up before safely taking him into custody, adding that a gun was recovered from the scene.

The suspect has been identified as 47-year-old Juan Jose Martinez of Long Beach. He was booked on several gun-related charges, Arrona said.
