Cal State Long Beach (CSULB) police on Monday announced the arrest of one burglary suspect and are advising the public to keep an eye out for an additional burglary suspect involved in a separate incident.

The first incident initially occurred on August 24, 2014 when CSULB police officers were dispatched to the University Student Union to investigate a burglary.

Arriving officers found a shattered glass window and were told the suspect had fled the scene prior to the arrival of the officers. The suspect had taken two Apple iMac computers.

calebaustinCSULB police detectives began an investigation, including DNA analysis of evidence recovered at the crime scene, which led them to identify Caleb Channing Austin as the suspect.

Austin has an extensive criminal history, CSULB police said in a statement. A jail records search by the Long Beach Post found Austin has a record of being in jail at least two times, with the most recent listed date as September 19.

CSULB police said the case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for a felony filing on February 4, and a felony warrant arrest was obtained on March 4, 2015.

The warrant was served to Austin while he was in Los Angeles County Men’s Jail on another unrelated case.

CSULB police are also advising the public about a separate suspect arrested for burglary on campus.

Mary Carter was arrested by CSULB police for a burglary to the Language Arts Building in March 2008 and is suspected of other recent property crimes at CSULB and CSU Los Angeles.

Police said Carter is not a student of CSULB and is not affiliated with the school in any way.

Anyone who sees Carter on campus is advised to call University Police at 562-985-4101. Police said people should not make an attempt to detain Carter on their own.

Anyone with information about Carter is asked to contact Detective Leyva at 562-985-4101 or johnny.leyva@csulb.edu.
