County authorities today identified a man who was shot to death inside an SUV in North Long Beach Saturday night. He was Abelardo Ramirez Bonilla, 46, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.

Bonilla’s body was discovered with gunshot wounds to the head at about 9:25 p.m. Saturday in the area of 72nd Street and Atlantic Place after officers patrolling the area were flagged down by a citizen who said a shooting occurred earlier in the night, police said in a statement Sunday morning. Firefighters pronounced Bonilla dead at the scene and his death has been classified as a homicide, according to the coroner.

“At this time, the motive for the shooting is currently unknown and detectives are actively working to gather additional information to further the ongoing investigation,” police said in a statement.

No suspect information was available.
