Huntington Beach Mayor Debbie Cook was voted the state Democratic Party’s official choice for the 46th Congressional District during this past weekend’s annual state convention in San Jose.

“This is a major shot in the arm for our campaign as we head toward the June 3 election,” Cook said after more than 2,000 convention delegates affirmed their support of her.  “I am honored that Democrats up and down the state of California believe I am the most qualified candidate to challenge the Republican nominee in our district come November.”

In early March, Cook won nearly unanimous delegate support during the Democratic regional endorsement caucus held in the city of Orange.

Cook is running for Congress after serving eight years on the Huntington Beach City Council.  She has devoted much of her adult life and her legal career to protecting parks, beaches and environmentally sensitive wetlands in Orange County.  She considers reducing America’s dependence on fossil fuels an environmental and national security imperative.

In addition to her duties as mayor of Huntington Beach, Cook is chair of the Energy and Environment Committee for the Southern California Association of Governments and chairs the Orange County Parks Commission.

The 46th Congressional District spans a two-county coastal area from Costa Mesa on the south to the Palos Verdes Peninsula on the north, including parts of Long Beach.  For more information, visit www.debbiecookforcongress.com.
