A press release from City Attorney Robert Shannon announced Thursday that he will seek a fourth term by running for re-election in next year’s April election. The statement reads:

Today I am officially announcing my intention to seek re-election to the office of Long Beach City Attorney in April of 2010. This will mark my fourth campaign, having first been elected in 1998 and re-elected in 2002 and 2006. If re-elected, I intend to continue the tradition, commenced by my predecessors, of effectively serving the citizens of Long Beach by providing first class independent legal services to its appointed and elected City officials.

In a Contra-Costa Times article (I can’t find it on the P-T website), Paul Eakins comments on Shannon’s tenure thus far:

One of Shannon’s most notable cases recently was the defeat of Long Beach Unified School District and the Long Beach Parent-Teacher Association, which had challenged a proposed terminal expansion at the Long Beach Airport.

No other candidates have announced plans to challenge Shannon.
