East Long Beach can expect a DUI/drivers license checkpoint somewhere in the area Saturday night.

At the checkpoint, planned for between 7:00PM and 3:00AM, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers will be on the lookout for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, as well as proper licensing. Those caught driving under the influence can expect jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can be more than $10K.

DUI checkpoints are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, according to the LBPD.

Funding for the checkpoint is provided to the LBPD by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
