bestplacestowork2013

The Los Angeles Business Journal‘s annual report of Best Places to Work in Los Angeles again listed several businesses with offices in Long Beach, including two that moved up from their 2012 rankings.

Released in a special supplement coupled with today’s edition, the 2013 list of Best Places to Work in Los Angeles included one small company and two medium-sized ones in Long Beach, one of which is new to the rankings.

Citing its flexible work schedules and attentiveness to employee concerns, Onisko & Scholz, a full accounting firm with less than 50 employees, ranked #8 out of 20 small businesses named. Last year, the certified public accountants were ranked #19.

bestplacestowork2013Windes & McClaughry Accountancy Corporation also re-solidified its role as a top medium-sized company to work for, making the list for the sixth year in a row, this time at its highest rank yet: #12. Founded in 1926, the firm with offices in Long Beach and Irvine offers employees unique holiday events, flexible work schedules and professional development opportunities. In addition to being named one of the best places to work in Los Angeles, Windes & McClaughry was also named one of the best places to work in Orange County by The Orange County Business Journal and was named one of the best accounting firms to work for in the country by Accounting Today.

Another veteran to the list of best places to work is P2S Engineering, a full-service mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology engineering firm with offices in the same Spring St. building as Onisko & Scholz. Now in its fifth year on the list, P2S has an on-site Zen Room, where employees can get massages anytime of the day, and often has free giveaways for employees, which all contributed to this year’s ranking of #16.

The rankings are compiled annually as a joint effort between the Los Angeles Business Journal and the Best Companies Group, who surveyed employer benefits and employee satisfaction at publicly and privately held companies in L.A. County. Businesses registered for the opportunity and the independent assessment firm Best Companies Group weighed the final outcomes based on a combination of employee engagement, company culture, employer policies and more. The survey process and evaluation was free.
