The Long Beach Rotary Club welcomes their new president and administrator on July 1 after the previous president completes his year of service and the former executive director retires following 33 years of directing the service organization.

The incoming president, Gregory Haeseler, has been a part of the club for the past nine years. He is a financial advisor at Wells Fargo and served as a board member in the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce, the College of Business Advisory Board in Cal State Dominguez Hills, the South Bay YMCA, and the Long Beach Day Nursery of which he was also the board chair.

“Because my business requires the skill of multi-tasking and organization and working with numerous individuals, I am able to transfer those organizational skills and do my best to lead the club for the next year,” said Haeseler.

Madrid Zimmerman is the new club administrator. She grew up in Long Beach and recently moved back from North Carolina, where she was a member of the Pisgah Forest Rotary Club in Brevard for seven years. She was also the executive director for the Heart of Brevard and served on the United Way Board.

“What attracted me to the position of club administrator is that it would allow me to meet and work with business members of the community who are already committed to the idea of giving back to the community,” Zimmerman said.

Both Haeseler and Zimmerman, along with the other professional staff, board of directors, committee chairs and officers constitute the 350 members in the club. It is the largest Rotary Club in the Orange County/Southeast Los Angeles County District 5320.

“I think the goal for any administrator is to have an efficient and effective office that helps support all the projects that you expect volunteers (i.e., the members) to conduct on behalf of the Rotary principles,” Zimmerman said. “I’ll try to be involved in the community both personally and professionally.”

On June 29th, the CSULB Japanese Gardens will host a president party where the club members say goodbye to former president Blake Christian and retiring Executive Director Karen Wyrick, and welcome Haeseler. The first official meeting of Haeseler will be held on July 11th at the Queen Mary with Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell as the guest speaker.

The presidents that will take Haeseler’s position in the future have already been chosen. Kay Cofield, president of California Media Productions, is the president-elect for the club starting July 2013, and Brian Russell, vice president of Coldwell Banker Commercial BLAIR WESTMAC, is the president-nominee starting July 2014.
