The Long Beach Unified School District will be hosting a hiring fair Thursday to find local subcontractors in the construction trades that can pre-qualify for upcoming LBUSD building and renovation projects.

Given the district’s current series of renovations and new school building projects via Measure K funds, the hope is to not just keep the funds local but to provide job access to local workers in Long Beach, Signal Hill, Avalon and parts of Lakewood that lie within the district’s boundaries. Last year, the Board of Education approved a Local Hiring Procedure for Measure K projects, which calls for outreach to qualified trades people who live and work within district boundaries.

While general contractors have already been assigned for all of the planned projects–CW Driver, Hensel Phelps, McCarthy, Turner, Roebellen Daum, and Tilden-Coil–the District are hoping to find skilled workers who live and work locally to assist them in the construction. These companies will have representatives at the event to provide details of upcoming projects and the type of work needed.

The event will take place Thursday, March 28 from 4PM to 6PM at the Teacher Resource Center, 1299 E. 32nd Street in Signal Hill. More information is available at LBschools.net
