8:00am | After the popular but controversial District Weekly folded in March 2010, Long Beach lost the writing style and investigative moxie that came to newsstands in the form of an alternative weekly each Wednesday. But that wasn’t the end of the story, apparently.
 
Former writers and contributors to The District Weekly launched a new website called GreaterLongBeach.com, covering Long Beach and surrounding areas including Downey and Compton (though it appears that much of that coverage is from outside newspapers). The site lists former District senior writer Dave Wielenga as its publisher and includes other District alum such as Ellen Griley, Rachel Powers, Steve Lowery and more.
 
Long Beach benefits from having multiple, diverse media outlets. Wielenga and his team were one of Long Beach’s greatest assets and the staging-live.lbpost.com welcomes them back.
