The city’s leading art organization, the Arts Council for Long Beach, announced last week that it is seeking new members for its Board of Directors.

“The objective here is to have an open recruitment process which provides an opportunity for anyone in our community to apply to serve on the ACLB Board of Directors,” John Glaza, Interim Executive Director for the organization, told the Post.

Created in 1976 to address the artistic needs—both organizational and educational—of the city of Long Beach, the Arts Council runs on annual contracts and contributions in order to operate. Their services range from professional development for artists to grants to creating public art. Their most current project, LightSpiel, is installed at their Collaborative Gallery on Broadway and had its opening reception this past Saturday.

“Like many nonprofit boards, we’re looking to further diversify our board in multiple ways,” said Glaza. “Skills and talents are very important as are other considerations—age, race, gender, culture, neighborhood involvement, business acumen, commitment to mission, willingness to serve.”

The deadline to apply is Monday, September 17. The Board Governance Committee has said that they will follow up with all candidates.

Interested individuals who live and/or work in Long Beach are invited to review directions for submission, the board agreement, and complete an application on the Arts Council’s website.
