Bryan Fargo
Having lived in Long Beach for most of his life, Bryan puts it simply: “There is no better place for me.” He is even self-referent in a sense about his love for this city, saying, “I often take for granted all the great things about this city and didn’t find my calling to give back until recently — and was admittedly selfish in some ways.”
As part of the automotive and transportation industry for thirteen years as an Engineer and Technician, he decided to enter the alternative fuels field working with natural gas engines for heavy duty trucks. At the time the Ports were putting together their clean truck program, he wanted to be involved — risks and all. Scoring an Engineer position at Westport Innovations, the company that supplies the natural gas engines and fuel systems for nearly all the heavy duty trucks using natural gas in the ports, he essentially built the infrastructure to support the new technology (no easy task given the truck industry’s firm stance on using diesel).
This work in alternative fuels also sparked a teaching bug with Bryan, applying with LBCC to become an adjunct professor at the Advanced Transportation and Technology Center in 2007. Furthermore, he is involved in the Long Beach Clean Cities Coalition, networking with other alternative energy experts in industry to promote clean technologies in Long Beach and Southern California. “I want to make sure the new generations enjoy Long Beach as much as I do and are successful in their ventures.”
