The man who shot a city code enforcement officer this morning and barricaded himself inside his North Long Beach home for more than six hours is now in Long Beach Police Department custody, according to those on the scene.
The officer–who has not been named–was grazed by a bullet while he and others were attempting to serve an inspection warrant at the residence in the 6100 block of John Ave. in North Long Beach. The suspect, whose identity has not been released, remained inside the residence as SWAT team officers as well as the San Bernardino County Bomb Squad surround it. He was extracted from his home with the help of a K-9 police dog and taken into custody without further incident just before 3:00PM.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and is receiving treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
Press-Telegram reports that neighbors say the suspect has been living in hoarding conditions since the death of close family members a few years ago and has a history of violations on file with the code enforcement office.
