Police are investigating after a dead body was found near the Los Angeles River in Long Beach Monday morning, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Officers responded to the river at Pacific Coast Highway at 6:21 a.m. to assist the Long Beach Fire Department in recovering the body, police said. Authorities were first notified by a passerby who noticed the body floating in the water and alerted the Long Beach Fire Department, according to Brian Fisk.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office has been contacted to assist with the investigation and determine the person’s identity and cause of death, police said.
There is currently no information available about the deceased person and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
According to the LBPD, traffic on Pacific Coast Highway is congested as officers are currently on scene, although no lanes have been shut down.
