11:45am | After serving as acting director since January, Amy Bodek was named the permanent Director of Development Services on Friday afternoon, filling the void left when former director Craig Beck was reassigned to the department of Gas & Oil after accepting a discounted hotel room from a lobbyist. Current Deputy City Manager Reggie Harrison had served as acting Director of Development Services since December.
Bodek was hired as an employee of the City in 1992 and last served as acting director of the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency and Manager of the Redevelopment Bureau. In her new role, Bodek will be responsible for overseeing development and revitalization of Long Beach through planning and enforcement of building and environmental codes.
“I am honored to be appointed Director of Development Services, just as I am passionate about the City of Long Beach,” said Bodek, in a statement. “I am committed to doing what it takes to help build a dynamic, safe and sustainable city that honors its past, embraces its future and preserves the character of its many unique neighborhoods.”
City Manager Pat West, who made the decision to reassign Beck in December 2009, announced the appointment of Bodek yesterday afternoon.
“She is without a doubt the most-qualified person to lead this very important department, and her abilities, experience and dedication will help ensure that the City of Long Beach continues to maintain its vitality and unique appeal,” said West, in a statement.
