Fire officials rescued two people from a boat that was on fire near the Queen Mary this afternoon.

It’s not clear why the 26-foot vessel caught fire, but firefighters and lifeguards rushed to it around 2 p.m., Long Beach Fire Department Capt. Jack Crabtree said.

There was heavy smoke coming from the motorboat and rescuers quickly got the two people aboard onto a fire vessel, according to Crabtree. Neither was seriously hurt.

Firefighters had the flames out within about 15 minutes and began towing the boat back to a mooring, Crabtree said.
