Seal Beach Animal Care Center<\/a> (SBACC) is once again looking for 13 dogs and 13 cats to grace the pages of their 2016 SBACC Dog Calendar and SBACC Cat Calendar. And it\u2019s free to enter! Take a glamour-puss or dapper-doggy shot of your best friend (at least 2300 x 1800 pixels), click on this link<\/a>, and follow the instructions to enter your pet. Then, cast a vote for your pet and encourage your friends and family to do so. Each vote will cost $1 (minimum of five), and all proceeds will go toward the care of the dogs and cats at SBACC. The winners will be announced Sept. 1via e-mail and Facebook. Calendars will be on saleat the 20thAnnual Wag n Walk at the Seal Beach Pier.<\/p>\n

Terri Steuben<\/a> is the author of the well-received Secrets of a Pet Whisperer<\/i>, a guidebook on how to communicate with your cat, dog or whoever may share your hearth and heart. She\u2019ll be signing her new release at two of Long Beach\u2019s independent bookstores this week. Tails of Triumph <\/i>has been 10 years in the making and has come out in time for the 10th<\/sup> year of the remembrance of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The book is a heartfelt and often heartbreaking account of Steuben\u2019s time as a team leader with The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) during its effort to rescue as many cats and dogs from the devastating effects of the storm. Steuben\u2019s account takes the readers into the scenes as well as into the minds of the animals as she makes use of her gifts of communication.<\/p>\n

The Gatsby appearance will include a talk by Steuben on pets and disaster preparedness.<\/p>\n

Apostrophe Books will also feature a signing on the following day of Stroll and Savor, Aug. 20. True Tails from the Dog Park<\/i>, written by Max and Luther with some assistance from their owners, gives tips on dog park behavior and some illustrative lessons from the dogs themselves.<\/p>\n
