Sunday night may be one of the only shows Rudy de Anda\u2019s band,\u00a0Rudy de Anda<\/a>, will play in Long Beach before their new record is released and they go on tour. Set to open for No Age<\/a>\u00a0 at the Federal Underground alongside Travesura<\/a>, the band plans to show their audience who they really are since releasing their latest album last year.<\/p>\n

Since the launch of “Delay, Cadaver of a Day” in 2016, the band\u2019s second album, De Anda says life has been \u201cironically kind of delayed.\u201d They\u2019re now making a record, produced and recorded by Jonny Bell of Crystal Antlers, that De Anda says is really what they\u2019re all about.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like Delay was maybe not the best representation of us in 2016 because that was something recorded in 2014, but that\u2019s the past[…],\u201d he said. \u201cI feel like this next record is […] something to actually put our money where our mouth is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Because the details have yet to be divulged or solidified, with De Anda feeling like he\u2019s keeping \u201cthis big musical secret from everyone,\u201d you can bet that Sunday night\u2019s show will be a one-of-a-kind performance.<\/p>\n

While they plan to touch on the sound they produced on Delay, which complements No Age\u2019s \u201ccontagious energy\u201d and gives their fans the music they know so well, they\u2019ll be throwing in new material for the first time in Long Beach this new year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe really feel like we want to represent ourselves in our truest form and we want people to have a reaction to that,\u201d said De Anda. \u201cIt\u2019ll be like a show where we\u2019re shedding our skin, showing what our new stuff is like.\u201d<\/p>\n

The trio\u2019s members are De Anda, bassist Lily Stretz and Alfred Hernandez, the drummer from De Anda\u2019s last band, Wild Pack of Canaries. Sunday\u2019s show will also feature special guest and sound manipulator Matisse Ibarra, also from Wild Pack.<\/p>\n

\u201c[…]We definitely have some plans for this year and we can\u2019t wait to show people what we\u2019re up to, but this is a great way to take a sneak peek,\u201d said De Anda.<\/p>\n

On opening for No Age and looking back to when he used to buy their CDs in high school and would see them perform at The Smell, it was just a couple of years ago at a show that Rudy de Anda met Randy Randall, one-half of the Los Angeles-based duo.<\/p>\n

Randall dug their set and the two hit it off, so when it came time for the show\u2019s announcement De Anda, who tries not to play too often locally, said he offered to open for the duo.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey’re one of the bigger bands that has proven that you don\u2019t necessarily have to follow the rules to become successful, because we\u2019re definitely not trying to follow the rules,\u201d said De Anda. \u201cI just feel like they\u2019re the kind of band we want to align ourselves with, at least just for one cool night.\u201d<\/p>\n
