Tonight, Long Beach Film Company presents the premiere of writer/director Matt Aveiro’s debut film “Jen In The Painting” at The Art Theatre. The show will also include a Sundance Film Festival 2007 Official Selection, The Oats’ Valor.

“Jen In The Painting” is a short film written and directed by Matt Aveiro (best known as the drummer for the ever-popular Cold War Kids), acclaimed Australian Director of Photography Adam Arkapaw (Cannes Film Festival winning Jerrycan, Animal Planet with Guy Pearce) and Producer Vern Moen (documentaries for Mando Diao, The Dead Weather). Shot on Super 16mm, this 17 minute color film showcases talent Pete Chekvala and Paige Stark, both who appeared in “A Relationship in Four Days,” a 2008 Cannes and Sundance Film Festivals Official Selection.

The story follows Richard (Chekvala), a relatively accomplished painter who, after a debilitating run in with his ex, becomes unable to create. His ex- girlfriend’s (Stark) critical eye looming heavily, Richard begins to neglect his loving and supportive current girlfriend, Emily (Nicole Pietrini), in a futile attempt to focus on his work. Richard is faced with the humbling reality that his insecurity may keep him from Emily.

The Moen/Aveiro partnership grew after Moen filmed a documentary for the Cold War Kids. Moen, in addition to documentaries for CWK, Mando Diao and The Dead Weather, has also done music videos for Mando Diao and Delta Spirit. His production company, Long Beach Film Company has also made several 2009 festival nominated shorts. Aveiro’s brainchild sourced inspiration anywhere from Raymond Carver short stories to Rohmer’s Love In The Afternoon.

The show will also include a Sundance Film Festival Official Selection, “The Oates’ Valor,” a short film written and directed by Tim Thaddeus Cahill. Cahill’s first film is a coming of age comedy of a son’s conflict with his demanding father. This 14 minute color piece was filmed on Super 16mm film.

Sponsored by Long Beach Film Company, “Jen In The Painting” premieres at The Historic Art Theatre, located at 2025 E. 4th St. Long Beach CA 90814 in the heart of Long Beach’s Famous Retro Row.
