I know you’re wondering what to do tonight. You’re probably thinking that, because it’s Tuesday, there’s nothing interesting happening. Well, let me tell you about what I think will be an evening of great music.
Hailing from Sacramento, Agent Ribbons is a strange mix of punk esthetic, art songs, quirky acoustic arrangements, and layered harmonies. The trio of erstaz sisters tour almost ceaselessly, playing in support of Camera Obscura, CAKE, and totaling more than 150 shows last year. On their way to SXSW, this is their first of 3 stops in Southern California.
The pickle in the middle is perhaps my favorite instrumental lap steel duo, The Lap Steel Duo. Mike Weber and Aaron Archambault write beautiful music with lovely, interwoven melodies, and showcase both technical prowess and taste in equal measure. They’ve also been known to sneak in the occasional eclectic cover now and again.
Opening the evening is Poison Ivy Head Band, a septet of local players who joined forces for a one-off show of original tunes.
The show, which kicks off at 8:30, is at The Puka Bar, located at 710 W Willow, just East of the 710 Freeway. Admission is $5 (cheap) and you must have ID (21+). See you there!
