Welcome to your first weekend of March! Here’s a few things we wager you’d enjoy doing this weekend.

HILTON OUTDOOR DINNER AND MOVIE NIGHTS (Saturday)

In August 2020, Downtown Hilton launched its Dinner & Movie Nights event, inviting anyone—hotel patrons and locals alike—to grab a bite and watch a movie from the top of the hotel’s new outdoor pool deck.

Hilton has relaunched the event, slated to run every Friday and Saturday through March. This Saturday, March 6, Hilton is showing “Bridesmaids.” Tickets are $10. Doors open at 6 p.m., movie starts at 7 p.m. Food and drink—Hilton has a full bar—will be available on site for additional purchase.

SAFE IN THE LIGHT OUTDOOR GALLERY (Saturday)

Pop-up gallery program, Loiter Galleries, is celebrating its grand reopening with “Safe in the Light,” a new outdoor exhibit showcasing neon artist Linda Sue Price. The neon exhibit will be available for viewing March 6 beginning at 6:30 p.m. on 4th Street in Downtown’s The Streets shopping center. The gallery will be up until April 17.

For the safety of all, Loiter Galleries strongly urges visitors to wear a face covering and practice social distancing while visiting the outdoor exhibit.

Downtown’s The Streets shopping center is located on 320 Pine Ave, however the exhibit will be showcased on the 4th Street side of the center.

I HEART LADIES WHO HUSTLE NEW MUSIC RELEASE SHOW & TELL (Friday)

Support your local female musicians this Friday, March 5, and tune in to the free “I Heart Ladies Who Hustle” livestream. Six sonic artists, including country musician Katie Jo and Indie/Americana singer Alyssandra Nighswonger, will share their new projects and music videos.

Each of the artists will also share their inspiration and process into making their new work, some of which they can thank the pandemic for sparking.

“The silver lining of being an artist in the middle of a pandemic has been some unexpected time for stewing and brewing, creating new things, feeling the moment and interpreting it into something to share the human experience, and dust off some unfinished projects and see old dreams to completion,” organizers said.

TASTE OF JAPAN POP-UP AT BURGER DADDY (Saturday)

Taste of Japan, the festival that celebrates Japanese culture and cuisine is hosting another pop-up event, the first of the year, in Downtown, Saturday, March 6 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Pre-pandemic, the event drew sold-out crowds as it would transform the Pike Outlets into a playground of sights, smells and tastes of traditional Japanese culture. Until Taste of Japan can once again return to its grander celebration, organizers are hosting a quaint, albeit just as tasty, celebration outside of Burger Daddy, 149 Linden Ave.

Enjoy freshly grilled Okonomiyaki and Takoyaki, Senbei, Ramen, Japanese sparkling juice and draft beer.

The pop-up is pick-up only, so guests will have to pre-order their food online, click here for more details. Upon arrival, guests are required to wear facial coverings and maintain social distancing.

OPEN MIC NIGHT WITH THE JAZZ ANGELS (Saturday)

 

Music education non-profit Jazz Angels is hosting a virtual open mic night Saturday, March 6, inviting young or adult musicians to play your favorite song, tell a joke, share a story or just kick back and enjoy the show. All genres of music are welcome.

SHAKESPEARE & FRIENDS ALOUD: THE SPANISH TRAGEDY BY THOMAS KYD (Thursday)

On Thursday, March 4, tune in for a free, special reading and performance of “The Spanish Tragedy” by Thomas Kyd, hosted by the Carpenter Center. This Elizabethan tragedy is identified as a pivotal work, establishing a new genre in English theater, the revenge play or revenge tragedy, back in 1587.

Can’t make this Thursday’s reading? Shakespeare & Friends Aloud will be reading “Henry VI” by William Shakespeare every Thursday, beginning March 11, for the rest of March.
