Virtually Pets

Fix Long Beach is having a cats-only clinic next Saturday (see Mark Your Calendars), and so in order to give canines equal time, we’d like to introduce you to the following darling dogs. Read on for more on other pet-related events in Long Beach. Please send any Long Beach or Seal Beach pet-related events or projects to pets@lbpost.com.

Victoria

Victoria

We introduced you to Victoria in the previous Virtually Pets. This big girl has a sad story—she was severely neglected by her human family and was never provided with the attention she needed. She’s a 13-year-old Jindo, great with kids, loves going for walks and is extremely loving to her foster mom. But she needs a real home to live out her golden years. She’s been spayed and fully vetted. To make her your playmate, contact hoffmannclaudia@hotmail.com.

Tramp July 2 Pet of the Week

Tramp

Do we have a lady for our Tramp? Or a fine gentleman? Tramp’s an owner surrender, and like his movie namesake, he’s a content, quiet guy and gets along with his canine mateys. He has a few skin issues, but at 13, he still has some very good years ahead. Meet Tramp at the shelter side of the Companion Animal Village at 7700 East Spring Street, 562.570.PETS, and meet Beth. Ask for ID# A392236.

Fix Long Beach Spay/Neuter Clinic, Cats Only
Saturday, July 11, 7:00AM–4:00PM: Houghton Park, 6301 North Myrtle Avenue (near Jordan High School), Long Beach
(Free to qualifying residents)

We’re still in the throes of kitten season—new litters are born daily, and there aren’t homes for all of them. So many get abandoned, run over, or euthanized. Fix Long Beach is helping to prevent these little tragedies by presenting the cats’ day at a special event. Cats only will be spayed or neutered for free on July 11, to qualified Long Beach residents only.

If you or someone you know earns an annual salary of $30,000 or less, sign up for an appointment here. (You can also come on the date of the appointment as standby; there’s no guarantee of a procedure, but you can make one for the next event.) When you come, bring proof of income and Long Beach residency (these events are for Long Beach residents only.)

Whether you come as standby or with an appointment, do not give your cat anything to eat or drink after 12:01AM, and bring your cat in a carrier that’s dedicated as an animal carrier. No paper bags or suitcases, please. If you don’t own a carrier, pet supply stores like Petco and PetSmart carry inexpensive cardboard ones; they run on the average of $8. Let’s continue to help make Long Beach no kill, one pet at a time.

Ongoing:

Monthly Mutt Mingles
Pussy & Pooch Pethouse and PawBar, 4818 East Second Street, Long Beach, third Wednesday of every month; and 222 East Broadway
Third Thursday of every month, 6:00–8:00PM

Join P&P for their monthly mixer, and enjoy special treats, toasts, and plenty of in-store tail-wagging. Mutt Mingles are a great way for your dog to learn valuable social skills. It’s a chance for them to experience and interact in a social setting with food, drink and plenty of other distractions! It’s important for your dog to learn how to behave around other dogs and people so that they’ll be the stars of the dog park and the dog beach. The indoor facility provides for a very comfortable setting and fun atmosphere. Dogs may be off-leash if supervised closely by their owners. For their protection, we lock the front door so dogs are safe from the street traffic.
