Social Distortion, The Derailers, The Old 97s, Reverend Horton Heat… The list of music legends that have graced the stage of the famed Hootenanny has made the rockabilly festival a staple in the diet of many music lovers. When it was announced earlier this year that the fest would be taking 2014 off, Long Beach audiophile Scott Tucker decided to bring the Oak Canyon Ranch’s style to the coast.

HortonsHayrideThe 1st Annual Horton’s Hayride will invade Pine Avenue between Broadway and 3rd come July 12 in the hope that it will create a Hootenanny-style tradition. In the words of Tucker, Hayride wants build to a brand that grows to the same size as the well-known rockabilly fest.

“This is a huge event in the streets of Long Beach with top rated talent,” Tucker said. “Throw in a pin-up contest, some classic cars, and vendors from local companies and I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t want to go.”

The all-ages event has succeeded in (literally) bringing a part of Hootenanny to Long Beach by way of handing the headliner to the aforementioned The Reverend Horton Heat, a Hoot-stage veteran led by frontman Jim Heath.

The Reverend Horton Heat trio has been hailed as the inventors of the contemporary psychobilly style, both in aesthetic and music with their flame-embroidered suits and slap-bass composition. Having been signed to Victory Records just last year after decades of independent releases, their newest album, Rev, has been a top 30 indie record on Billboard.

“When it’s all over, the show lets you right out in the middle of Downtown Long Beach,” Tucker said. “Can’t get better.”

Horton’s Hayride will take place on Saturday, July 12 from 12PM to 10PM. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased here.
