A delicious and musical day of family fun will be held this weekend at the Petrolane Boys & Girls Club at 1920 Lemon Avenue next to Martin Luther King Jr. Park, from 10:00am-3:00pm this Saturday.
The Boys & Girls Club along with local officials will host food from around the world, with arts and crafts, a drum circle, several community groups and cultural performances on a main stage. The event is called “A Taste Of World Cultures” and is being hosted by 6th District Councilmember Dee Andrews and Mayor Bob Foster in celebration of Cultural Diversity Month. The area around King Park is one of the most culturally diverse neighborhoods in Long Beach.
“I’m delighted to help celebrate the 6th Annual Cultural Diversity Festival,” said Mayor Foster, in a statement. “Long Beach looks at our diversity as a strength and the Festival is an opportunity for our community to celebrate the many contributions each culture brings to Long Beach.”
The goal of the event is to provide a glimpse of the many cultures that make up the city of Long Beach, one of the most diverse cities in the country. Supporting organizations include the Long Beach Human Dignity Program, the United Cambodian Community, the Long Beach Shakespeare Company, Catalyst Community, Centro CHA and the Boy Scouts of America.
“I am so pleased to be in a city with such a rich fabric of cultural diversity,” said Andrews, “And I look forward to celebrations like this one that honor this diversity.”
