Executive Chef Katherine Humphus is (unfortunately) leaving her coveted station at BO-beau kitchen + roof tap to seek the lush pastures of travel and entrepreneurship, to explore areas beyond the restaurant culinary realm. She has opened four restaurants for the Cohn Restaurant Group within the past four years and was one of our five female chefs rocking Long Beach’s culinary scene.
Humphus graduated from Le Cordon Bleu Paris in 2009 and went on to work at wd-50 in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Her move back to California began with an internship with The French Laundry in Yountville. In 2010 she headed back to her hometown of San Diego and opened her own catering company, Pardon My French. She reconnected with the Cohn Restaurant Group by teaching classes at the Balboa Park Food & Wine School, impressed the owners and was hired for the position of Executive Chef for the Cohn’s new French restaurant, BO-beau kitchen + bar.
Humphus decided in early December that she needed more time to travel and to work on a new projects. Her plans for the near future include creating Kat’s Kitchen Collective, a website dedicated to bridging the gap between the home cook and the professional chef. Lately, Humphus has had her hands full with “creating a portfolio for culinary enthusiasts who want to hone their skills, learn new techniques and create memorable dinner parties while expanding their culinary knowledge with approachable instruction,” she explained.
As far as leaving Cohn Restaurant Group is concerned, Humphus says it’s like leaving her second family. “At BO-beau kitchen + roof tap, I’ll miss the line cooks and kitchen staff who put their all into what they do every day… I’ll also miss our guests. The Long Beach community has welcomed Bo-beau with open arms and we’ve been so humbled by the support.”
While Humphus has created quite the delectable ruckus on Pine Ave., as she heads back to San Diego this January, we will wish her the best of luck with her traveling and entrepreneurial endeavors.
