As we all know, a night out for sushi for two can become a $100 dinner in the blink of an eye. At 8-12 bucks a roll, these little bite sized morsels can really add up. If you still scratch your head at this dilemma, I have an answer for you: Bamboo Teri House. This is a little spot located in the Bixby area of the city on Atlantic and Wardlow. Teri House has just about any Japanese cuisine that you could want, whether it is sushi or sashimi, rice bowls covered with chicken, beef or pork, or even combinations where you get an abundant portion of two or three different menu items.

I have been to the Teri House quite a few times now and was introduced to it, as with many other places in this part of town, by the Moncure family. My most recent visit was last week with my good buddy Miles. He loves Asian food and had not been to the Teri House so I decided that it was time for an introduction. It is located in the little strip mall on the southwest corner of Atlantic and Wardlow next to Mustard’s Chicago Hotdogs. As you walk in the front door of the Teri House you see a little take out counter, and the dining room is off to the right. On this occasion, we were immediately greeted and seated. It took us a little time to decide which of the many options on the menu we wanted, so we started out with a beer and worked our way through the choices. (By the way, they have $1.99 Sapporo mugs and $5.99 pitchers all day long, all summer long.)

I like the variety of Teri House’s combinations. It gives me the ability to have a few different things without overloading on one or the other. I decided to start things off with a bowl of Miso soup, and then ordered the three item combination with the Spicy Tuna and Cucumber Roll, Mixed Tempura, and Chicken Katsu, which is lightly breaded chicken that is deep fried and served with a wonderful sauce. Miles went for the three item combo with Shrimp Tempura, Sesame Chicken and Salmon Sashimi.

The combinations come with a bowl of steamed rice and pan fried noodles, making for one heck of a feast, and are a large amount of food even for someone with my appetite. I have also tried many of the other dishes that they serve, such as the tasty Bamboo Angus Beef Bowl, the Sushi Boat (28 pieces of a variety of rolls and sashimi) and the Rainbow Roll, which have all been very pleasing.

With so many things to choose from there is something for everybody at the Teri House, and the prices are very reasonable ranging from 6-10 bucks with a few exceptions. The next time that you are thinking Japanese but you don’t want to break the bank, roll on over to the Bamboo Teri House at 3391 Atlantic Avenue, order your favorite drink, and feel free to experiment. I have a feeling that you’ll like where it takes you.
