10:39am | Construction is underway on Dark Harbor, the Queen Mary’s annual Halloween haunt event. Dark Harbor takes advantage of the ship’s haunted history and nautical setting with mazes on the ship and shore.
Work began recently on all five of Dark Harbor’s mazes, ‘The Village of the Damned,’ ‘Submerged,’ ‘Containment,’ ‘Hellfire’ and ‘The Cage.’ The ship’s yard also received a delivery of cargo containers for the construction of ‘Hell’s Bells Tower,’ the flame-shooting 33-foot tall centerpiece of Dark Harbor.
Now in its 17th year, the Queen Mary Halloween event was known as Shipwreck until 2010, when the theme of the event was overhauled. “We are having fun with every maze and coming up with numerous changes and enhancements in themes,” said Director David Wally. “Plus, we’ll have 20 percent more performers this year, which means more scares for guests and even more bang for the buck.”
The Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor will be open October 7-9; 14-16; 20-23; and 27-31 from 7 p.m. to midnight. Ticket and group discounts start at $20 online at www.queenmary.com/dark-harbor. ‘Fast Fright’ front-of-the-line passes are available in limited quantities online and at the door. Additionally, a special Dark Harbor dinner menu will be available for purchase online. Purchase includes a three-course meal aboard the ship at the Promenade Café and early entry to Dark Harbor.
The Queen Mary is located at 1126 Queens Highway.
