October marks Long Beach Arts Month and the Long Beach Post has partnered with the Arts Council for Long Beach to celebrate the image makers, the painters, the dancers, the designers, the musicians, and the countless other artists who make our city vibrant and cultured. Our homepage will feature an artist’s own unique interpretation of Long Beach daily so make sure to check back every weekday to discover or rediscover a local talent.
Asia Morris is a writer by day and an artist by night. As a Long Beach native who went to Scripps College in Claremont for both art and writing, her creative spirit runneth over. This piece for the Long Beach Post was created as an ode to our humbling California drought. To the left is a withering flower found outside the Post’s office during one of the city’s most recent heat waves.
Asia is inspired daily by nature, like the wrinkles in a wilted flower’s petals or the veins in a houseplant’s curved contours. She also has a major thing for birds and their feathers. She is currently working on several conceptual pieces and hopes to have enough work finished by January to launch her own website.
Her most recent work, not including this one, is a jersey design for the cycling team, Engine 11. You can check out her intricate drawings for the limited edition outfit here. Otherwise, email her if you’d like to commission a drawing or other type of work at asiamorris0905@gmail.com and follow her on Instagram to keep up with her current projects and musings (@hugelandmass).
