9:40am | 30,000 dusty memories were left behind on the shelves of Acres of Books when Jackie and Philip Smith closed the door and turned the lock for the final time back in 2008.
 
On Saturday, hundreds of book lovers waited patiently in a line that wrapped around the building for the chance to gather them up in old fruit boxes and cart them off to a new home where these sneeze-inducing tomes were given a fresh opportunity to teach, to inspire, to create new memories at the touch of a cover and the turn of a page.
 
The building may be gone, but the books and the words therein live on.
