Long Beach Ballet’s production of “The Nutcracker” was named Best Loved Nutcracker in the U.S. for 2019 by customers of ticket service Goldstar, the second straight year the ballet has been so honored.

This is the 13th year that Goldstar has given out the award based on customer reactions to holiday productions by more than 50 dance companies, including some of the best known in the country: the Joffrey, which has won the award three times, the Boston and Kirov ballets, which have each won it once.

Long Beach Ballet recently concluded its 37th annual production of the Tchaikovsky classic with a cast of more than 200, a full symphony orchestra, special effects, pyrotechnics and, yes, Rebel, a live, white Arabian horse.

Long Beach Ballet will receive a cash prize to go towards education and accessibility programs. It will also be awarded, wait for it, “The Nutty” statuette and yes that’s a real thing.

The winner of the Goldstar National Nutcracker Award is determined by audience ratings from people who attended 2019 Nutcracker productions through Goldstar.
