Over $500k donated during pandemic and economic slowdown.

Did you know that so much of what you love about Long Beach is fueled by the tireless work of area nonprofits? The nonprofits within this city have been critical conductors in terms of pooling together their resources and providing aid to those who need it most. Not only do they provide help for those in need, our nonprofits champion initiatives that typically get cut from budgets when resources are impacted.

Over 400 nonprofits step up every day and help the more than 400,000 people that live in Long Beach. They keep our community the creative, safe, supportive, empathetic, and thriving place that we are proud to call our home.

In 2019, Long Beach Gives, an initiative spearheaded by the Josephine S. Gumbiner Foundation, kicked off the city’s annual day of giving to support local nonprofits and bring attention to all of the good that they do in our community. In their inaugural year, they set out to raise $350,000 and ended up raising over $822,000! This year, during the first couple of days of early giving, Long Beach Gives is already well on their way to their goal of raising $1,000,000 dollars, with almost $500,000 raised to date. The official day of giving is September 24th; however, early giving kicked off on the 17th.

Long Beach Gives is encouraging locals to get involved so that our city can hit this year’s goal at a time when we need it most. While our community has been negatively impacted by the effects of COVID-19, our nonprofits have stepped up and stepped in to meet this moment and serve residents when they needed it most. Long Beach nonprofits have been on the front lines during this pandemic for those in need, so Long Beach Gives is calling on our community to get involved by picking their favorite nonprofit by visiting LongBeachGives.org, and donating any amount that they can.
